Retirement Rehearsal

Have you ever wondered when’s enough enough, have you ever considered that maybe you have enough already. Well, that is what was going through my head for months before I decided to step away from my career of 25 years.
It was a decision not made on impulse but a clear and calculated choice that was planned over many years. A decision that many would call reckless, but nobody knew of the thought that went into it and nobody has seen the spreadsheets and data that backs the decision.
So, when is enough enough well for me it was when I could comfortably see our family’s wealth continuing to grow without having to add anymore contributions and letting compounding do its thing. It was when I believed I had enough assets and didn’t need anymore and when my cashflow could comfortably support my outgoings.
Early retirement to me also doesn’t necessarily mean not working at all, instead it means stopping trading my time for something that wasn’t giving me joy, happiness and purpose. It was stopping completing a job that was causing large amounts of stress on both me and my family.
So, what does early retirement mean to you is it stepping away from your job and working just that little bit less or is it completely not working at all.
when is enough for you to say I don’t need anymore. Is it when you have a million dollars in the bank or when you have just enough to be able to spend more time with your family.
Only you can answer these questions, but I can hopefully provide some ideas, tips and first-hand experience of how I was able to come up with the answers for myself.
The above photo is the sunset from the loungeroom of my home, a home I never thought would be possible to obtain in my lifetime.
