Weekend Getaway to the Southern Highlands to Connect

Bungonia Gorge
Over the weekend Vanessa and I took time to take a trip through the Southern Highlands of NSW over 2 nights. We saw some great sights and ate good food we had no idea all of this was in our backyard.
Day 1: Left the ACT at 7am and drove up the highway to Goulburn before turning off and heading to Bungonia Gorge just half hour off the Hume highway. The views were spectacular from Lookdown lookout also there were many walks to do (we skipped them this time but will be back).

We then headed up inland to Bundanoon and Morton National Park where we checked out The Grand Canyon Lookout. We had no idea any of this was out there it was amazing. After a short walk we then headed back into Bundanoon and had some Thai at AXE Thai Restaurant.

After lunch we headed to Fitzroy Falls about 30 mins further towards Bowral, it was our first time here the falls were very nice along with an easy walk to vantage points. This took us up to mid-afternoon with our next destination Bowral.

Upon entering Bowral, it was clear that the town was something else. The streets were lined with Autum trees, and the homes were well looked after with care put into all aspects of street appeal. Instantly Vanessa was mesmerised by it all. we settled into the Bowral Hotel which was lovely before heading out to dinner at Lucette a French Fine Dining restaurant. I had to have the Wagyu and Vanessa chicken, but the highlight was the cheese souffle. We finished the night watching some of the Tiger’s game at the hotel before we crashed into bed.

The following day we went for some brekky at a nearby cafe which was delicious and then headed towards Kiama. We stopped at some more falls on the way, and a rainforest walk at Minnamurra rainforest. It was a nice morning perfect weather couldn’t have asked for more.
We entered Kiama about 12pm and visited the markets and the Kiama Blowhole, we hadn’t been there for many years and quickly saw why it is so popular for tourists. The blowhole itself was in fine form shooting up large sprays of water. We also visited the less popular Little Blowhole located nearby, the houses surrounding it were some of the best coastal homes I have ever seen.

We left Kiama at about 3pm to head back to Bowral arriving back to our accommodation after 4pm. We were going to eat at the pub, but we just couldn’t fit anymore food in. Instead, we just chilled out enjoying each other’s company and watched Twisters on Netflix getting in some desert though and a drink beforehand.
We slept in Monday morning, which is out of character for me, but it was our time away it was time to unwind and enjoy ourselves. We spent the morning exploring Bowral including the Bradman museum, Mary Poppins statue, Mount Gibraltar lookout and the Milk Factory art gallery before heading back towards home.

We finished off the trip with a stop at Lerida Estate Vineyards just outside of Canberra for some wine tasting and food, this was a great ending to a great trip. It was so good to connect with vanessa as life can get busy and take us away from what really matters.
