What My Life Is Like Now

Ok so this is a bit of a personal post on where I am at right now, what my week would look like this week if I was still working as opposed to what it looks like now that I’m not at work or should I say working on what I want to work on (I will get to this in a later post).

This week for the past 25 years has been one of many hours starting at 7am and working up to 6pm for 6 days. You see its easter week and the only day my profession shuts is Good Friday with easter Saturday being one of the busiest days of the year closely followed by Wednesday and Thursday. This time is spent working very fast paced satisfying customer needs and leading a large team, it is full of pressure and expectations to perform with the added ‘Visit’ from the boss. There is no rest after work with the mind focused on what needs to be done the next day.

The week would be spent away from family including easter Sunday, the day when the kids wake up excited for evidence of the easter bunny coming and searching for eggs. Its spent being far removed from being able to take the time to celebrate despite having the 1 day off on Friday when the shop is shut and for many the Friday is spent instore anyway dealing with alarms.

Monday- Tuesday: There may be the potential for a day off but usually spent celebrating the team and setting up.

Wednesday – Thursday: Crazy, Crazy busy starting early finishing late high stress but I will admit also some fun. No family time usually working long days sometimes 12 – 13 hours (I know of peers who would do stupid hours).

Friday: Day off with the family, pretty exhausted to be honest. Just want to chill out and not deal with anything including kids.

Saturday: forced to work even though its voluntary, that’s right you don’t have to work but the expectation is you do yep not sure how that works but it’s a thing. The funny thing is I would always advocate the same to my team and even funnier we had a sense of pride about it. Very long day usually start at 6 – 7am finish 6pm.

Sunday: Work even though it’s quiet just walk around wasting time instead of being with loved ones.

This year my first year in 25 years I won’t be doing the above, the first year I am not forced to work, the first year I am being with the family.

Monday – Wednesday: Hanging out exercising no stress, taking my daughter to and from school, spent Tuesday with the family it was my partners day off and my daughter was sick. I also worked on my projects that are keeping me busy leant new skills.

Thursday – Tuesday: Going away with the family to the coast no work, no pressure no responsibilities just family time and personal time to celebrate Easter do egg hunts, eat seafood, no threats of alarm call outs. Plenty of time to work on self-improvement opposed to the business’s requirements.

That’s it, that’s my week in a nut shell so much more simple theres really nothing else to say.

That is what I was doing for 25 years in a row, no rest year in year out an expectation that I was never really given appreciation for other than an occasional chocolate from my boss and a thank you. and the same goes for Christmas.
